Roosevelt Elementary School
Roosevelt Elementary School, home of the Roosevelt Bear, is located east of the center of Bellingham, Washington. It is right in the Roosevelt neighborhood, and is just blocks away from Roosevelt and Racine Park. The first incarnation of the Roosevelt Elementary School was built in 1902, and was named the Eureka Grade School. In 1928, the name was changed to Roosevelt in order to honor and acknowledge former president Theodore Roosevelt. A newer version of the school was built and upgraded at its current location. The mascot of Roosevelt Elementary school is a bear, for “Teddy” Roosevelt. Roosevelt Elementary has a focus on the importance of the outdoors, and encourages students to familiar with our local history. With its approximate enrollment of students around 370, and class sizes around 13 students per class (3 lower than the state average), Roosevelt Elementary School prides itself in being a conducive community for learning and exploring.
