Bellingham Schools are known for their unique style, their beautiful locations, and for their dedication to teaching their students.  In Washington, your child can attend any school in your immediate area or in a neighboring district.  In addition to this, because of the federal law, No Child Left Behind, students that are assigned as “in need of improvement” have the right to move from a Title 1 School to a higher performing school in the district.  Bellingham Schools often focus on their local history, and acknowledge their roots through recognition of local indigenous tribes.  For example, two out of the three available middle schools in Bellingham have named their schools after Native American words or tribes.  As a prime example of dedication to education, Fairhaven Middle School just received the 2009 Achievement Award for Washington State, which acknowledges the excellence and performance of the top schools in the state.
