Wade King Elementary School
Wade King Elementary School is the newest elementary school built in Bellingham. It is located southeast of the center of the city, just north of Lake Padden in the Samish neighborhood at 2155 Yew Street Road. Built in 2008, it is currently winning green points for its use of natural lighting. Wade King Elementary School is working toward becoming an International Baccalaureate World School offering the Primary Years Program. This means that this school is aware of the need to prepare children as early as possible for college and possible careers in a rapidly globalizing world. This educational program applies to a worldwide community of school, and is dedicated to creating a well-informed and peaceful world vision. For example, an intern from China is helping the students learn about the culture and language of China. It will be another two years before they are authorized as an International Baccalaureate World School, but they are fervent and determined to receive the name. The motto of Wade King Elementary School is, “Developing children who will change the world.”
